Fitness with Horses!

Why Fitness with Horses?

Fitness with Horses is a new approach to getting fit! Learn horseback riding and horsemanship skills with physical therapy-based fitness exercises and activities.

Merging horses and fitness concepts adapted from Tai Chi for balance, Yoga for stretching, Physical Therapy for general body mechanics improvement, and horseback riding position techniques, provides a new environment to get fit and reduce stress.

Participants will:

  • Improve balance, coordination and body symmetry

  • Build confidence and leadership skills

  • Discover body conditioning needs

  • Reduce job-related stress

  • Strengthen core muscles

  • Burn calories while having fun with horses

Fitness Concepts

The following fitness concepts, borrowed from Yoga and Tai Chi and integrated with horseback riding skills and knowledge will be covered during the 8-weeks:

  • Muscle Relaxation

  • Stretching

  • Breathing

  • Balance

  • Stress Reduction

  • Basic Horseback Riding

  • Focus on Individual Needs

Class Information

Fitness with Horses - Level I

Learn horse back riding and horsemanship skills with physical therapy and fitness activities.  Improve balance and coordination, strengthen core muscles, and burn calories while having fun with horses.  Includes riding techniques and stretches on horseback every session.  (Ages 18 and older, appropriate for all ability levels.)

Each participant will also receive one private lesson at no extra cost.

Fitness with Horses - Level I

For participants who have completed Fitness with Horses Level I.  (Ages 18 and older)

Long pants with stretch (not jeans), sturdy shoes or boots required. Helmets for on-horse work provided.

Directions from Normal (approx. 7 miles):
W. on College to Mitsubishi Mtrwy (T-Intersection), turn left. Right at first road on right (Old Peoria Rd). Left at 900 E. After Mill Creek Intersection, entrance on right after 2nd house on right –on crest of hill. Look for split rail fence & barn sign!

Directions from Bloomington (approx. 7 miles):
