Fall & Spring Horse Activities for Girl Scouts

We invite Girl Scouts who are passionate about horses to attend a full day of horse activities (girls may be eligible to earn a badge upon request.)  You will explore horseback riding, horse care and knowledge, horse and nature crafts, games on and off horseback, and a scavenger hunt.

Earn a Horse Badge!

Horse Fun Badge

Do 6 of the 10 following to qualify for the Horse Fun Badge, at Raspberry Grove Equestrian Center in 2 hours:

Research

  • On the Trail - learn about riding facilities
  • Fashion and Function - learn about clothing for riding
  • Horses Through History - discover horse history
  • Song of the Horse - teach a cowboy ballad to your troop
  • Make a Career of Riding - explore horse-related careers
  • Horse Tails - learn about famous horses and tell the story
  • Horse Stories - read a book about horses

And Do

  • Caring for Horses - visit and learn about caring for horses
  • Ease with Equipment - learn the parts of saddles and bridles and assist with tacking up
  • Showing Off - attend a horsemanship event

Horse Rider Badge

Do 5 of the 10 following activities to qualify for the Horse Rider Badge, which can be done at Raspberry Grove Equestrian Center with visit(s) of 10 hours, 2 half-day visits, or 2 Fall Fun or Spring Fling Day:

Research

  • Horses, Safety and You - explain the safety of riding and working with horses
  • Horse Anatomy - know the principle parts of the horse
  • New Skills - Identify two riding skills you would like to learn
  • Equipment Expert - visit a tack shop or acquire a catalogue and look at different tack style

And Do

  • Get Ready to Ride - tack up a horse by yourself
  • In Good Form - demonstrate mounting/dismounting, turning and stopping
  • Clips, Combs and More - learn about grooming tools and how to use them
  • Ride On - plan and take part in a riding experience
  • To Perfect Your Form - take a riding lesson to learn riding basics
  • See For Yourself - Observe or take part in a horse show
